The kennels behind our dogs.
A pedigree is only as good as the kennels in it. Rather than hand you a five-generation chart and wish you luck, here are the programs our dogs actually came from: where they are, who runs them, what they are known for, and which of our dogs trace back to each one.
A kennel prefix is the name a breeder registers their dogs under: Karonika, Rude, Wildwynn. It travels with the dog for life, which is why a registered name so often reads like two prefixes stapled together, the one a dog was born into and the one it moved to. Read a pedigree and you are really reading a list of these prefixes, and whether they mean anything depends entirely on whether you know the programs behind them.
9 of our dogs trace back to the programs below. Three of them are overseas, which is where the flags come in. If you want the generation-by-generation chart for a particular dog, ask and we'll send you one. Start with our dogs if you would rather meet them first.

Karonika ML Dachshunds
Karonika is a KUSA-registered miniature longhair program in the South African Karoo, listed with the South African Dachshund Club and breeding on a mix of imported and South African stock. The Kennel Union of Southern Africa has issued the kennel eight breed championship certificates since 2022, among them CH Karonika's African Dream, CH Karonika's King of Africa and CH Karonika Sweet Coraline. It is also the most thoroughly health-tested program our dogs come from: eleven Karonika dogs carry OFA records for patellas, cardiac and eyes, nine of them with current CHIC numbers, and the line has published DNA clearances for PRA-cord1, NCL, MDR1 and von Willebrand's.

Rude
Rudė is one of the oldest longhaired dachshund programs in Lithuania. Lilija Tranelienė brought home her first longhaired dachshund in 1990, when the variety was barely established in the country, and began breeding in 1992; her daughter Audronė now runs the miniature and rabbit sides while Lilija keeps the standards. The program breeds under the Lithuanian Cynological Society and the FCI from Pagramantis, in the Tauragė district, and campaigns across Europe. The Lithuanian Dachshund Club ranked Rudė the top dachshund kennel in the country in both 2019 and 2021. Its dogs include Rowena Rudė, European Champion and Lithuania's top-ranked dachshund of 2019, alongside champions titled in Latvia, Estonia, Poland and Russia.

Olena Havriliak · Luhansk, Ukraine
GLEDI BEST
GLEDI BEST is Olena Havriliak's longhaired dachshund program in Luhansk, Ukraine, working in miniature and rabbit sizes. We came to her through Rudė, which is how most of our European connections have been made: one breeder we trust vouching for another. Lucio was bred there, and went on to finish both his AKC Championship and his Grand Championship.

Wildwynn Dachshunds
Wildwynn is Leigh Smith's program in Franklinton, North Carolina, breeding miniature longhairs with some smooths alongside. She raised and sold purebred Welsh ponies for forty years before coming back to dachshunds, and she trains and handles her own dogs in the ring rather than sending them out. She is an AKC Breeder of Merit, which is verifiable on the AKC's own participant list rather than only claimed. Wildwynn has bred a run of titled dogs, including GCH CH Wildwynn Cinjay's Summer Nights, GCH Wildwynn Eastern Star and GCH CH Wildwynn Sounds of Summer, and Wildwynn dogs have placed in the Hound Group. Ten carry OFA records for patellas, cardiac and eyes, five with current CHIC numbers.
